What is the Google Drive Expanding Online PD Course?

Google Drive Expanding is an online course designed for educators who want to apply powerful online productivity tools to standards-based instruction. The course uses a combination of free Google applications and third-party add-ons and emphasizes collaboration with other educators and people worldwide. It is designed for all educators and supports the National Teaching Standards, Five Core Propositions, and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards (NETS). Access to students is optional.

What is Google Drive?

Through this course, students will learn to expand their audiences and be more productive by using the following:

  • Translation tools
  • Interactive newsletters
  • Add-ons for Google Documents to generate footnotes and bibliographies to create graduate-level research papers
  • Interface with mobile to create media for Google Slides

Students will also learn how to “flip” their classroom using Google Forms to create multimedia quizzes for their students to access outside of class time. All activities emphasize new learning skills that students can apply immediately in their classrooms. By the end of the course, students will be able to do the following:

  • Create interactive multimedia-rich slideshows
  • Utilize a variety of Google add-ons
  • Use Google Documents on a mobile device
  • Design and implement classroom lessons using Google Tools and add-ons
  • Use Google Forms for automated quizzes and live polling
  • See a future where artificial intelligence revolutionizes how teachers use Google applications

There is no required textbook for this course. All online resources supporting the course content will be available in the course assignments through active hyperlinks. These resources may include video tutorials, online activities and resources, worksheets, and journal articles.

This course is applicable towards the Classroom Technology Integration Certificate and Online Teaching Certificate.

I feel so blessed to have had a job that I totally loved to do each and every day. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching elementary aged students for the past 38 years. I liked not only working with the children, but their families as well. I have made many lifelong connections with many of them.
