What is the Google Drive Expanded Online PD Course?
Google Drive Expanded is an online course designed for educators who want to learn how to use powerful online productivity tools and apply them to standards-based instruction. The course uses a combination of free Google applications and third-party add-ons and emphasizes collaboration with other educators and people from around the world. Google Drive Expanded is designed for educators at all grade levels and supports the National Teaching Standards, Five Core Propositions, and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards (NETS).
What is Google Drive?
Google Drive is a file storage service offered by Google where people can access their files from each of their computers and mobile devices. Users can create, edit, and share files using Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. Google Drive comes with 15 GB of storage space for free.
What will you learn in Google Drive Expanded?
Through this course, students will learn to expand their audiences and be more productive by using the following:
- Translation tools
- Voice typing
- Interactive newsletters
- Add-ons for Google Documents to generate footnotes and bibliographies to create graduate-level research papers
Students will also learn how to “flip” their classroom using Google Forms to create multimedia quizzes for their students to access outside of class time and automatically grade and send out the results using Flubaroo. All activities emphasize new learning skills that students can apply immediately in their classrooms. By the end of the course, students will be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate their ability to use Google Drive
- Utilize a variety of Google add-ons
- Use Google Documents on a mobile device
- Design and implement classroom lessons using Google Tools and add-ons
- Automate the scoring process for Google Forms quizzes
There is no required textbook for this course. All online resources that support the course content will be made available in the course assignments through active hyperlinks. These resources may include podcasts, videos, online activities, worksheets, and journal articles.
Excellent course for expanding Google Drive and utilizing all the tools we forget about. Very useful for educators at all levels!
