Writing with Mentor Texts
What is Writing With Mentor Texts?
This courses on learning about mentor texts and the best practices for teaching students how to put mentor texts to use. The online course helps educators discover a variety of mentor text resources, as well as how to organize mentor texts for effective instruction, use texts in the writing process and how to address Common Core writing standards. Teachers learn writing instruction theory along with practical ideas and strategies for using mentor texts.
What Will You Learn?
Educators in the Writing With Mentor Texts course learn to create lesson plans that engage students with a variety of mentor texts and writing genres. They complete the course with an understanding of how to foster the development of students using mentor texts for writing. They will identify and develop techniques for teaching writing with mentor texts and incorporate a variety of professional writing samples for students to analyze and model.
They also have the opportunity to collaborate with other education professionals, sharing ideas and experiences regarding the teaching of writing strategies and mentor texts.
What Are the Assignments and Projects?
The Writing With Mentor Texts course is self-paced. Fresno Pacific University offers students the chance to enroll at any time and take up to one year from the date of registration to complete all assignments. Modules in the course include:
