I have been a classroom teacher for over 20 years and have worked in education for over 30 years, teaching in public, private, charter, and international schools. Fifteen of those years were spent teaching in Germany at the Black Forest Academy, a school established for the children of missionaries. As a teacher my attitude was always “Do whatever it takes to reach every student,” even if that means trying something that no one has ever tried before. I enjoy curriculum development, Biblical integration, art integration, educational technology, and teacher development.

Professional Experience: 4 years of active military duty in the US Army; 20+ years classroom teaching K-12 and higher education

Personal Experience: I have had the privilege of living on three continents and traveling to over 20 countries. During that time I experienced and grew from the challenges of second language acquisition, cross-cultural living and ministry, and working with students and their families from all over the world.

Publications: I am a contributing artist to a few internationally circulated art books and magazines and enjoy writing and illustrating my own books.

Favorite Bible Verse: Deuteronomy 6:5 ~ "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength."

Favorite Authors: Mark Twain, Fyodor Dostoevsky, C.S. Lewis, Robert Lewis Stevenson, John Steinbeck

Favorite Activities:  I have an old Jeep (1968), so I enjoy taking my wife or kids or friends around town and just finding a coffee shop to hang out and talk for a while or the local frozen yogurt shop on a hot day. On weekends I enjoy taking kayaks to the lake and either fishing or just enjoying the sun and swimming. I also love hiking and have hiked many amazing trails in Switzerland when we lived in Europe, but also enjoy local mountains. My wife and I play a lot of tennis together and enjoy our tennis community as we play on local leagues. We also enjoy mentoring young couples who are either preparing for marriage or who are newly married. On the creative side, I spend a lot of time drawing and painting and playing the piano.

Family Info: Married since 1990, with two wonderful adult children, Amanda and Micah

What Matters: Love God and love people
