This course equips educators with the tools and strategies to foster character in the classroom by focusing on core virtues such as honesty, integrity, compassion, humility, perseverance and self-control. Designed for K-8 teachers, this course emphasizes the integration of character education into everyday lessons, helping students develop ethical and moral reasoning alongside academic growth. Participants will explore each virtue through research-based articles, online resources, historical case studies, children's literature, and through selections from the textbook, The Book of Virtues: 30th Anniversary Edition. Through engaging discussions with peers, educators will reflect on the role of these virtues in fostering a positive and respectful classroom culture. Additionally, teachers will develop lesson plans that incorporate these core values into their subject areas, helping students understand and practice these important truths in their academic and personal lives.

I believe that teachers are the backbone of society, and that education plays a major role in shaping a culture’s values. I made a career change to education after four years of active duty in the army and two years working in aircraft. For the past 25-30 years, I have had the privilege of teaching in a variety of settings in public and private schools, charter schools, and over half of my career teaching overseas in international settings. My educational interests include integrated curriculum development, art instruction, classroom climate, teacher care, educational technology, and Biblical integration.
