Impacts & Ethics of Computing
This course is the fourth in a series of Computer Science Authorization courses that enable teachers to be credentialed to teach Computer Science and is designed to fulfill requirements for the California Computer Science Supplemental Authorization, but may be taken by those not seeking the Supplemental Authorization. Content is applicable to educators in grades 6 through 14.
NOTE: Impacts & Ethics of Computing (CSED 903) is a 4 unit course. It is equivalent to the 3 unit CSED 790 course that meets the Computer Science Supplemental Authorization requirements for the State of California. Notify Fresno Pacific University’s CE office if you wish to use this course to fulfill requirements for the California Computer Science Supplemental Authorization and we will register you for the CSED 790 course number.
What is Impacts & Ethics of Computing?
This course is designed to provide educators with a foundational background on the impact and ethics of computing. Through this course, the student will enter debates regarding the pace and impact of various technological innovations in biotechnologies, aerospace, robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Students will learn and compare a broad range of ethical frameworks, assessing their application to privacy, security, automation, artificial intelligence, and codes of ethics-especially as these apply to their own teaching and learning contexts.
What You’ll Learn in this Online Professional Development Course
This PD course is designed to provide educators with a foundational background on the impact and ethics of computing. Through this course, the student will enter debates regarding the pace and impact of various technological innovations in biotechnologies, aerospace, robotics, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
