This course is designed to explore the relationship between strength training and athletic performance. Participants will learn how to develop individualized strength training programs for both young athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Topics include basic principles of resistance training, the controversy of strength training for children, growth and development issues, development and administration of programs for youth, integrating other fitness components, individualizing strength programs, and developing sport-specific strength training program for young athletes. This course will be beneficial for the junior or senior high school teacher or coach. NOTE: Required textbook must be purchased separately.
