This course explores the historical origins of the link between nutrition and mental health, tracing its evolution from ancient through many diverse cultural perspectives. The investigation of various diets connected to psychological functioning and mental well-being. Exploration in this course include macronutrients (type of food )( carbs, protein , & fat), & what deficiencies will do our mental health . Topics also include dietary patterns, the gut-brain connection. Key brain structures such as the amygdala, hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, hypothalamus, and striatum are analyzed in relation to emotions, memory, decision-making, appetite, and food-seeking behaviors. The course covers the impact of dietary intake on neurotransmitters, neurogenesis, neural repair, neuroplasticity, and neuroinflammation.
