Taking the class centered around Angela Duckworth's book Grit has been an enriching and transformative experience. The course provided a comprehensive exploration of the concept of grit and its profound implications for personal and professional development. One of the highlights of the class was the deep dive into Duckworth's research on grit. Having previously watched her TED talk, I was somewhat familiar with the concept, but the book offered a much more detailed and nuanced understanding. The discussions, assignments, and activities facilitated by the instructor were instrumental in helping me internalize the principles of grit and recognize their applicability in various aspects of life. The class activities, such as the Hard Thing Rule assignment and the development of a culture of grit, were particularly impactful. These exercises not only reinforced the theoretical aspects of grit but also provided practical strategies for cultivating perseverance and resilience. I found myself reflecting on my teaching practices and considering new ways to help my physics students develop grit, especially in the face of challenging problems. The collaborative nature of the class was another strength. Engaging with peers, sharing experiences, and learning from each other's insights added depth to my understanding of grit. The constructive feedback and the supportive learning environment fostered a sense of community and collective growth.
