Responsible AI Practices is designed to empower K-14 educators as leaders in implementing AI technology safely and ethically. A primary goal is to ensure both teachers and students understand the critical need for responsible AI use that directly addresses issues such as academic integrity and the importance of adhering to legal frameworks like FERPA and COPPA to safeguard student privacy and safety.

Teachers will gain hands-on experience using Language Learning Models (LLMs) and other AI tools to streamline their professional workflows. Specific applications include leveraging AI for research, lesson planning, brainstorming, generating instructional materials, and improving instruction. Crucially, the course prepares teachers to instruct students in the responsible and effective use of generative AI as a learning tool. Learning is delivered through interactive tasks, current readings, and video tutorials.

An immediate benefit is a significant reduction in teacher planning time, ultimately improving instruction quality. Participants will contribute AI-generated resources and best practices to a shared knowledge base, enriching the wider educational community.

This specialized course is part of the AI Flash Course Series.

NOTE: Students must complete this course by January 16, 2026.

I feel so blessed to have had a job that I totally loved to do each and every day. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching elementary aged students for the past 38 years. I liked not only working with the children, but their families as well. I have made many lifelong connections with many of them. As a teacher, it is such a rewarding feeling to see my students “light come on” and see them understand the objective of the lesson. I was also very fond of working with other teachers and administrators and helping them understand and learn about technology. I always liked integrating technology into my lessons and helping others do the same. This really makes lessons come to life. All my FPU courses are very helpful for teachers to learn how to integrate technology into their classroom lessons. Working with my FPU students is great because they really want to learn and use what they have learned to make their classroom lessons so much better and more meaningful for their students.
