What Is the Digital Storytelling Course?
Storytelling is a timeless way to inspire, connect and educate. Today’s technology opens even more exciting possibilities. In the Digital Storytelling course, you will learn to combine video, music, graphics and narration to create powerful, multimedia stories. Designed to spark creativity and engagement, this hands-on course will help you and your students bring ideas to life using technology for storytelling, including Photo Story 3, PowerPoint, Keynote, iMovie and Windows 10 Movie Maker.
You’ll explore how digital storytelling education can teach students how to capture an audience’s attention while developing skills that deepen creative expression and communication across a range of learning environments.
What Will You Learn?
The Digital Storytelling course covers a variety of topics related to digital storytelling education and the use of technology for storytelling. The course provides a variety of free online resources to support your learning, including graphics, sound effects, music, rubrics, sample digital stories, recommended guidelines and lesson ideas for guiding students through creating their own digital stories. Educators who complete the course will know how to:
- Demonstrate a command of using multimedia software and the elements of an effective story.
- Reflect on their research of the significance of digital storytelling in education, specifically highlighting the age level they teach.
- Demonstrate their understanding of how other teachers are using digital stories with their students and how it supports language arts acquisition skills.
- Demonstrate their ability to integrate digital storytelling into their curriculum by creating and reporting on a student-centered unit of study.
- Learn about rubrics and create one that is a good fit for their unit of study.
- Look to the future for possible digital storytelling projects.
What Are the Assignments and Projects?
Educators can enroll in the Digital Storytelling course at any time and take up to one year from the registration date to complete all assignments. Modules within the course include:
- Getting Started With Digital Storytelling
- Connecting Digital Storytelling to Life Skills
- Selecting a Multimedia Application
- Collecting and Storing Projects and Resources
- Create a Digital Story
