Taking the graduate-level course on creating a Bitmoji classroom was both engaging and rewarding. This course has really helped me reconsider what I do with my students for carry-over and generalization of their speech sounds/language skills. When the pandemic started I tried to create a Bitmoji Classroom but was completely lost and got overwhelmed, finally I created personal Google Classrooms for ALL of my students. Due to HIPAA and privacy laws I wanted to make sure that students and families couldn’t see other students that receive speech services so I made Google Classroom for all 50 of my students. This is absolutely crazy and not effective. After two years of doing this I have noticed that most of my families have not touched their Google Classrooms and I don’t really blame them, it’s very boring and there are a lot of activities on there that they need to print out in order to access. I am hoping that with this new skill (creating a Bitmoji Classroom) that I can create a site for students and families to use at home for their personal use that is interactive, personal and fun. I hope that it encourages students to do work at home. I think that this whole course has been valuable to me because now I can make an engaging website that includes assignments like Google Forms that students need to “turn in” on snow-days or after breaks to see how they are practicing at home. The most life-changing tool that was new to me was the “removing backgrounds” tools because I don’t know how many times I have tried to create powerpoint slides for classes or for students and I can’t find a great image without the big white background OR I use the transparent tool and it limits my options. I cannot wait to use this new resource for my articulation students and language students.
