Storytelling has been at the heart of all cultures through spoken word, artwork, and text but with the advent of technology you can take storytelling to a whole new level and our course, Digital Storytelling, will teach you how you and your students can get there. At the heart of the course is learning to express your own creativity to enlighten others. The course includes learning to add video, music, graphics, and narration to your story enabling you to capture your audience's attention. In this hands-on course, you will create your story using a multimedia authoring program of your choice such as Photo Story 3, PowerPoint, Keynote, iMovie, and Windows 10 Movie Maker. The course includes free online resources including graphics, sounds, music, rubrics, examples of other digital stories, recommended guidelines, and how to conduct lessons where your students are creating their own digital stories. Learning resources include educational websites and YouTube tutorials.

You will need a computer/laptop that can record narration and play back sound. This may require an inexpensive microphone. There is also the option of using your smartphone to make recordings. This course is recommended for all grade levels. Access to students is not required. Like all our courses, we take great pride in supporting our students and addressing their individual needs.

This course is applicable towards the Online Teaching Certificate and Technology Skills for Educators Certificate.

I feel so blessed to have had a job that I totally loved to do each and every day. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching elementary aged students for the past 38 years. I liked not only working with the children, but their families as well. I have made many lifelong connections with many of them. As a teacher, it is such a rewarding feeling to see my students “light come on” and see them understand the objective of the lesson. I was also very fond of working with other teachers and administrators and helping them understand and learn about technology. I always liked integrating technology into my lessons and helping others do the same. This really makes lessons come to life. All my FPU courses are very helpful for teachers to learn how to integrate technology into their classroom lessons. Working with my FPU students is great because they really want to learn and use what they have learned to make their classroom lessons so much better and more meaningful for their students.
