Using Google Maps and Earth
In this course, Using Google Maps and Earth, you will see the world as you have never seen it before. These interconnected applications enable you to explore and navigate around the world with programs that are packed with features and high-resolution views to enrich the lives for you and your students. Most of you are acquainted with using map programs on your phones to navigate to one location but you will be amazed at how much more you can get out of Google Maps on your computer and your smartphone. The other part of the course, Google Earth, has you flying around the globe and zooming into the places you want to explore. The course covers Google Earth, the online version, and Google Earth Pro, a free download application. If you are not getting a mental picture go to earth.google.com and check it out. All of these applications have easy to use tools that enable you to create your own interactive projects you can incorporate into standards-based lessons. All you need is a computer, smartphone, and a stable internet connection. The applications are free along with the online tutorial resources. You do not need access to students to complete the course. As with all of our courses, we take great pride in supporting our students.

I feel so blessed to have had a job that I totally loved to do each and every day. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching elementary aged students for the past 38 years. I liked not only working with the children, but their families as well. I have made many lifelong connections with many of them. As a teacher, it is such a rewarding feeling to see my students “light come on” and see them understand the objective of the lesson. I was also very fond of working with other teachers and administrators and helping them understand and learn about technology. I always liked integrating technology into my lessons and helping others do the same. This really makes lessons come to life. All my FPU courses are very helpful for teachers to learn how to integrate technology into their classroom lessons. Working with my FPU students is great because they really want to learn and use what they have learned to make their classroom lessons so much better and more meaningful for their students.
