This course helped me see grammar instruction in a new way by focusing on teaching grammar through reading and writing instead of isolated worksheets. I learned how mentor texts and authentic writing activities can make grammar more meaningful and engaging for students. The most valuable lesson I learned was that students are more likely to apply grammar skills when they understand the purpose behind them. My favorite assignment was “Mentoring Through Text” because it connected directly to the way I teach literature and writing in my classroom.

I loved this class. My only complaint, which is not the professor's fault, is that I wish there were visual examples of the grammar notebook that the author of the textbook mentions, so I can see how it is set up. Loved the professor. Thank you!

This was an amazing class with a highly practical textbook and useful assignments that I will be able to immediately implement in my classroom. I have taken multiple classes with this professor, and I really like the way she organizes her classes and provides helpful feedback. I would recommend this class for any ELA or English teacher, but I found it especially practical for teaching middle school writing.

The practical examples showed me exactly how to weave grammar into real writing, so my students notice the payoff right away.
