What is the Teacher Burnout: Prevention & Recovery course?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the employment of teachers of all levels will grow between 2016 and 2026, with almost a quarter of a million new teaching jobs opening before 2026. Unfortunately, this is due to a phenomenon called teacher burnout. Over half of U.S. teachers report that their morale is low, and more teachers than ever are leaving the profession within the first five years in the classroom. This course is designed to help teachers positively deal with burnout in order to be the best educators they can be.

This course is useful for K-12 teachers in the classroom, those aspiring to enter the teaching profession, and those working in school administration roles. Though teaching is difficult, it can be rewarding. This course is designed for educators that want to find ways to positively cope with the difficulties that teaching can bring at all levels.

With our Teacher Burnout course, you can lessen the difficulties of being an educator and remember why you started teaching in the first place. This course provides you with some practical help to avoid or recover from teacher burnout by providing ideas to reduce workload, organize resources and space, create boundaries, and practice healthy habits of thinking. You’ll be able to:

  • Determine signs of teacher burnout in him/herself and others
  • Practice healthy habits of thinking and reflection about his/her teaching performance
  • Develop strategies of organization that allow for efficient use of space, time and resources
  • Create a plan for collaboration with others to maximize the hours in each day
  • Design a strategy for avoiding teacher burnout / recovering from burnout  
  • National Standards

The Five Core Propositions - comparable to medicine’s Hippocratic Oath — set forth the profession’s vision for accomplished teaching. Together, the propositions form the basis of all National Board Standards and the foundation for National Board Certification. Course assignments have been designed so students can demonstrate excellence against these professional teaching standards whenever possible.
