Pilates is a popular low-impact exercise technique. It can be used to improve many aspects of physical fitness such as strength, flexibility, coordination, speed, agility, and endurance. Pilates also enhances body control and awareness, reduces aches and pains, increases balance, improves performance, and accelerates recovery. In this course, students will learn what pilates is designed to do and how to perform it safely and correctly. Participants will learn how to perform pilates techniques for the entire body. Course assignments encourage students to integrate specific Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) National Standards for K-12 Physical Education. Basic understanding of the science of pilates is also addressed. Participants are required to record themselves and upload the videos to websites. Videos taken from smartphones or tablets are sufficient.

Note: Required textbook and Pilates exercise equipment must be acquired separately.

This course is applicable towards the Strength and Conditioning Certificate.
