What Is the Drawing Magic Course?

Drawing Magic is an online professional development course for educators that opens the door to discovering a world of creativity and confidence, with no special “art talent” required. The course is designed to make art accessible for every educator. Both experienced and new teachers will benefit from unique, step-by-step drawing experiences that support National Visual Arts Standards and can be easily adapted for your classroom.

Perfect for developing elementary art lessons, the course uses everyday materials to inspire meaningful, engaging art activities for kids. From traditional drawing techniques to abstract, non-objective design, you'll explore creative approaches that encourage expression and critical thinking. Get ready to spark imagination and effortlessly bring drawing into your teaching routine!

What Will You Learn?

The Drawing Magic professional development course covers a variety of topics that will boost your skills in art education. Educators who complete the course earn PD credits and learn to:

  • Successfully complete their own series of 20 drawings.
  • Identify potential points of difficulty that students might encounter after having completed each drawing experience themselves.
  • Experience firsthand different media techniques and processes, as well as their unique responses and communicative qualities.
  • Consider connections between the visual arts and other disciplines in their curriculum.
  • Create and use different visual structures and functions of art to convey their own individual ideas.

What Are the Assignments and Projects?

Educators can enroll in the Drawing Magic course at any time and take up to one year from the registration date to complete all assignments. Each module within the course includes five of the 20 art experiences. Those experiences include:

  • Changing a Human Face

What Educators Who Took the Drawing Magic Course Say

“I enjoyed this class. The assignments were interesting, varied, and very applicable to use in an elementary art classroom. I tried many new art methods of creating that I haven't done before. I also really appreciated the time to create my own art, in my own way. I loved being a student. This class helped me as an art teacher and as an artist.”

“Although I am a PE teacher, I would recommend this course because it leads to thoughts about cross-curricular content.”

Instructor
I have been involved in the arts my entire life, and as an educator, I have seen firsthand how the integration of meaningful art experiences into existing classroom curriculum can consistently lead to advancements in student learning and achievement. Areas such as critical thinking, problem-solving, authentic learning, teamwork, and intrinsic motivation, are all enhanced when art becomes a systematic part of the classroom landscape. For this reason, I’m very enthusiastic about showing other teachers – regardless of their art backgrounds – how easy it can be to incorporate this simple yet profound element into the curriculum they are already teaching – with spectacular results!
