This professional development course equips educators to design and deliver a rigorous, culturally responsive Ethnic Studies curriculum based on an in-depth understanding of the California Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum. And grounded in the Sankofa principle, U.S. civic values, Reflective Patriotism, and the Curriculum Management Audit (CMA) framework. Participants explore how to foster student voice, historical inquiry, and civic identity through Civic-Based Learning (CBL) while developing a semester-length course that uplifts cultural pride, moral awareness, and community resilience. Emphasizing shared values, accountability, and ethical leadership, the Sankofa approach prepares students to confront injustice not with bitterness, but with hope and purpose-honoring the past while building a more just and inclusive future.
