A comprehensive independent study course consisting of 11 modules: readings, videos, group forums, and assorted projects were required to show reflection and understanding of the coursework. It was lengthy, and for those who struggle with independent coursework, be mindful that managing time and due dates can be a challenge. If you have the time and focus to complete the coursework, it will go by quickly, and you'll leave more informed about how to mindfully and responsibly create online lessons for students.

I started this course by confessing my fear of technology and my qualms about my ability to survive in an online model of teaching. While I realize I still have digital mountains to climb, I am reassured by the equipment and resources this course has supplied to help me on my ascent. I appreciate the assignments that challenged me by forcing me to use digital tools that once posed as formidable obstacles. I also valued exploring new theories of learning as well as reviewing traditional pedagogies that I have neglected for far too long. As I completed each module, I was constantly reminded of my early years as a teacher. Just as then, I find myself progressing through the same stages of learning: initial anxiety and doubt followed by engagement and struggles and culminating with completion and understanding. Now, hopefully I'm ready to move on to application with real students.

The course had a lot of information packed into it, but some assignments and forum posts felt more like busywork than valuable. Several assignments were outdated or had links no longer valid. Grading of assignments sometimes took weeks instead of days.

This is a very good introduction to blending digital content with traditional classroom models, and points the way toward successful online class creation and administration. The course seemed a little heavy on review of teaching theory and practices, but did also demonstrate how those same theories used in the classroom translated to the digital, online world.
