I would recommend this course because the instructor is very organized. The syllabus and skills taught are done in a steady progression. Each skill builds upon the last one. If you are unfamiliar with computer terminology the book provided is a resource you have and can continue to reference. The coursework is also manageable while working full-time.

Steve was a wonderful instructor. The flow of his class work built logically upon itself and his lessons were very applicable to what is currently being offered within technology in school districts today. He was also very prompt in getting back to me whenever I had a question for him on line. The only hiccup I had with the class is that both my computers, school and personal, would not allow me to get into the cloud paint software that I needed to access in order to complete a couple of assignments. Each time I tried, I was denied by virus blocking and could not move forward to access the on line activities. Steve gave me a suggestion on how to get around that issue and I was able to work something else out.

This is a great class for beginners and those who want to learn new skills. It covers basic word processing, spreadsheets, paint, and computer skills. The instructor is friendly, helpful, and responds quickly. The amount of work is completely fair for a three unit class. No assignments seemed like busy hours. To help save students the additional cost of an all online course, the final project must be mailed (not difficult to send in a pre-addressed envelope he sends :0)). He sends out a paper copy of the course lessons as well as a well-organized and instructive digital access. I used the digital copy exclusively, and it was awesome. You'll enjoy this class!

I give this four stars only because the instructions could be updated. The instructor refers to "Appleworks" as the word processing program on an Apple computer, but that is not the case on my MacBook Pro. My word processing program is "Pages." Also, some of the projects are to be done in a program he refers to as "Paint," a program he assumes is on all Apple computers. Again, not the case for me. I had to download a version of that to my computer that was not exactly the same as the one he refers to. These things were a bit troublesome, but I made it work. Otherwise, a very manageable and organized course.

I thought that this class was very helpful and explicitly written. It emphasized experimentation and exploration which is necessary in order to become familiar with what computers and technology in general have to offer. I think it would help if it was adapted to use more updated computers. It was inconvenient to have to find a computer that was usable for this class. The professor was absolutely wonderful! He was patient, and made himself available to any questions or problems.

This class was an excellent class for teachers who are relative novices to contemporary technology, especially with regard to computer technology. The class is very well organized dividing the five most basic areas of computer knowledge in order of importance. These areas include essential computer operational knowledge, word processing programs, spreadsheet programs, paint and draw programs, and the Internet. The assignments of this course are directed toward regular or contracted teachers most of whom have classrooms of their own; are supplied with school computers; have access to a schools grading systems, Internet, email, and other school databases, and teach specific subject areas. Please be aware that certified substitute teachers are also required to take Continuing Education courses in order to keep their certifications active. Most of the conditions described above apply only to regular or contract teachers and not to substitute teachers. My only recommendation for the TEC-923 classes are to take these differences into consideration and design some of the assignments so they are more applicable to a substitute teacher's situation.
