This course encourages teachers to present a story of American History in the classroom that moves beyond the traditional white "master narrative."

This course led me to think deeply on issues related to American immigration and history. While our stories are all unique, and this diversity is a wonderful and rich resource for our nation, there is much that unites us in the common adversities and successes of our ancestors and the hope they found in this nation that should continue to inspire us.

A Nation of Immigrants is another useful course from Dr. Allen Carden. For those of us who know our family histories and/or have friends who are immigrants, there are some personal components of this course that can be very worthwhile. Overall, this course provides great insight into the American immigration experience, regardless of time or country of origin.

The course A Nation of Immigrants was excellent in providing background knowledge on several different immigrant groups that came to the United States for various reasons. The required reading and assignments goes in depth on a variety of topics such as the struggles of different immigrant groups when they arrived as well as domestic legislation and movements historically against immigrants
