This has been one of the most fulfilling classes I have completed here. Dr. Carden's thoughtful class helped me learn much more about the Civil Rights movement.

I learned so much! The opportunity to create a lesson and teach it was so rewarding. I actually created three lessons, two to pre-teach content and skills that I wanted the students to have and the main lesson which was to analyze MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech and create a "puzzle piece poster" to express their understanding of a key idea from the speech. The thought and creativity I saw in my 8th graders was phenomenal. I know that in the future, Dr. Carden said this would be an online class. Having to do this independent study without being able to interact regularly with others is the only thing that caused me to give a 4 instead of a 5. The coursework itself was definitely a 5 as was Dr. Carden's response when I contacted him.

I have really enjoyed the structure and content of the class. The assignments are time-consuming and challenging, but worthwhile to allow me to explore the content more for the benefit of me and the students I teach in my classroom.

A lot of eye opening information. I learned a great deal about the lesser known heroes of the movement and about the influence of women on the movement. Loved it

Having taught for 28 years, i was not sure what this class could offer me. I was amazed at how many personal stories I learned to share with my students. The in-depth study of Dr. King's writings was a tremendous learning experience. I would recommend this class for anyone who has an interest in the civil rights movement or American history.

I really liked the course, but I wish there was an option to submit assignments electronically, instead of only via mail, and all at once. Some initial feedback to let students know they are on the right track would have been helpful, instead of submitting all at once and crossing fingers hoping that it turned out well. Other than that, course was very informative.
