I enjoyed the course! I found it to be informative and enlightening. When math is taught with language in mind, ELLs don't just catch up, but they often excel. They develop as mathematicians and as communicators, which transfers across subjects.

I recently completed a course on teaching math to English language learners (ELLs), and I would rate the experience as excellent. This is the first course I have ever taken with Fresno Pacific on the recommendation of my friend. This course provided valuable insights and practical strategies for effectively teaching ELLs in mathematical concepts. The content was well-structured, covering essential topics such as language support, scaffolding techniques, and cultural sensitivity. The instructor demonstrated a deep understanding of the challenges faced by ELLs in learning math and offered a range of effective instructional approaches. The course materials, including visual aids examples, and resources, were comprehensive and relevant, facilitating both theoretical understanding and practical implementation. One aspect that stood out was the emphasis on clarity of instruction. This course highlighted the importance of using simple, concise language while avoiding complex terminology and jargon. This approach, coupled with the use of visual aids and real-life examples, significantly enhanced my ability to convey mathematical concepts in a manner that ELLs could grasp easily. This course also recognized the importance of collaboration and interaction among ELLs. It stressed the benefits of peer discussions and explanations, allowing students to build their mathematical language and reasoning skills together. This aspect of the course inspired me to implement more collaborative activities in my own teaching, fostering a supportive and interactive classroom environment. Overall, I would highly recommend this course to any teacher seeking to enhance their abilities in teaching math to English language learners. This course provided a comprehensive range of strategies and resources, giving me the tools necessary to create an inclusive and effective learning experience for ELLs. I feel confident in my ability to support ELLs in developing their mathematical skills while also improving their English language proficiency. I am considering taking more courses to complete the math certificate offered by Fresno Pacific.

This was an interesting class. I learned a lot out language developmnet of ELL's. The only thing that threw me was the assignment where we had to read the entire book and respond to 3 areas for each of the 7 chapters. If I were teaching, this assignment would take an excessively long time to complete. Though I think it is meaningful and necessary assignment, I think an assigment in that capacity should be split among 2-3 assignments.
