I found this to be a hard course. Some of the stories were difficult to understand or were hard to get involved with in the beginning. There was only one story that I read that I did not use in my reflections, which I then had to find a different story to use. That story was "Wine." It just didn't make sense to me.

My appreciation for the art of the short story has increased in the last three months. The short story represents the perfect and satisfying recipe for an avid reader with little free time; my current phase in life. With the same story elements as a novel, the short story offers instant gratification and a sense of resolution in as little time as a Boy Scout troop meeting, or a mountain bike team practice. The true intellectual joy comes in being the literary critic on the drive home or while washing the dishes the next day. The textbook is an anthology of international and American writers. It won't collect dust on your bookshelf after the completion of this course.

Lit 907 offered interesting assignments that let me write my thoughts and let me engage my students in thinking about literary elements. I enjoyed opening their eyes to classic stories from authors that no one should miss. My favorite part about the course was the choice I had in both readings and ways to respond. The result was that delightful challenge of meaningful thought and communication. I'm all joyful about literature again!

Stories from around the world are the required reading for this interesting course. The broad selection of stories made the course a journey tailored to the needs and desires of the individual student. This course is not a simple one size fits all, but as much as the student is willing to get out of it. Bravo! The instructor, Ms. Reimer, is thoughtful and accessible.
