This class will guide you through a survey of plays by/about Latino Americans to gain an understanding and empathy for Latino American culture. These plays will expose you to an array of experiences within the Latino American culture: dreams and expectations of American life, identity as Latino Americans, self-image, and generational tensions. You will make correlations between assigned plays and other mediums of Latino American media. You will take the observations you've made from these plays and create a vibrant lesson plan that will walk students through the lives of Latino Americans, helping them to gain a sense of empathy while making connections with their lives today. You will also create and administer a survey as you reflect on your personal and professional experiences in relating to others from a culture different than your own.
