My name is Nancy Wayne, I have been teaching young children, school-age children, and adults for 42 years. During that time I have a family and attend my church regularly. I feel my life has been supported and guided by my Lord. In 1971 while attending college I worked in Children Centers. After graduating from college I started working for Head Start starting as a teacher then as Teacher Director.
I received my credential in 1987 and got my first teaching job in Fresno Unified School District. I have taught children, tutored children having reading problems, mentored teachers, and was a Master teacher for student teachers. Toward the end of my career I moved to the Early Learning Department of FUSD, my goal was to be in a position to teach, model and demonstrate best teaching practices to teachers. Ongoing education is critical for teachers so they will be able to meet the needs of the children and the standards and expectations of the State and District.
I retired and began teaching Degree Completion classes, at Fresno Pacific University, always with the mindset the students might be future teachers. Using the textbooks and with my “field” experience I believe I have brought into the classroom real-life experiences, that makes learning more valuable. Those experiences opened my eyes, that future teachers must have ongoing education, and mentors throughout their career, to meet the needs of our changing society. Times change, society changes, and therefore the children in our classrooms reflect that change. I believe that God has sent me on the path of teaching, to teach children and now adults, so they will be ready for what the world has in store for them.
