STEAM: Science & Art Integration - INT 1574

This course will provide strategies for integrating the arts into science to help make challenging text relatable for students, provide greater access to science concepts for all students, and infuse science instruction with rigorous yet fun approaches for both understanding and assessing Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and CA Visual and Performing Arts Standards.

Document Based Questions for Literature and History - LIT 1015

This two-day training will provide both English and history-social science teachers in grades 6-12 with instructional strategies, sample lessons, and practices to utilize the document based question approach to inspire great teaching and learning while meeting the goals of the new CA ELA-ELD and HSS Frameworks.  This session will provide practical, hands-on experience with materials and introduce participants to the DBQ materials specifically designed for literature, history, civics, geography, and economics.  For course related questions, please contact Pamela McGee, pmcgee@fcoe.org.

Reading Apprenticeship Across Disciplines - LRD 1425

This five-day workshop will introduce teachers and administrators to the research-based WestEd Reading Across the Disciplines Framework for Literacy.  Participants will engage with texts from many disciplines, learn new literacy strategies and routines, and plan for instruction in their own classrooms during the five days.

Developing Next Generation Science Standards - SCI 1316

This course is designed for teachers to develop lessons based on the Next Generation Science Standards.  Starting with learning the design and flow of the NGSS, teachers learn how to build lesson units that include fundamental science concepts.
