In this course, students explore what reading research tells us about how the brain learns to read. Students will explore the "Simple View of Reading," which gives us a theoretical model for developing reading proficiency (Decoding + Linguistic Comprehension = Reading Comprehension). and participate in a guided inquiry of this model through the lens of "Scarborough's Reading Rope," which reveals more about the complex processes embedded in the "Simple View of Reading."
