This course is designed to foster the development of the next generation of math education leaders by bringing together a small group of motivated new teachers with exceptional mentors from across the country. Each participant will actively engage in developing the instructional practices and critical skills that are tantamount to successful teaching in today's secondary mathematics classrooms. What does a student-centered, problem-based math classroom look like? How is questioning an effective tool for formative assessment? What sorts of questions elicit rich discussions amongst groups of students? How can I make the Standards for Mathematical Practice flow seamlessly through my lessons? How can I maximize my students' learning in my classroom? Participants will gain these insights, and the answers to many more questions, as they grow from this essential professional development experience and empower their students.
