Over the course of 30 hours, this workshop utilizes a small-group, language intervention instructional model for students learning English as a second language through direct instruction and experiential learning. During small group intervention sessions, this workshop will focus on balancing individualized, scaffolded language instruction along with the administration of ongoing assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction for students K-8 students with limited English language proficiency. Teachers will gain knowledge and experience in differentiating instruction to meet the individual needs of students based on observation, as well as formative and summative assessment of foundational language and literacy skills. Instructional and assessment materials are aligned with Common Core standards and strategically target standards within the domains of Language, Speaking & Listening, and Reading Foundational Skills.
