This course was excellent and really ignited in me a desire to include more poetry into my current lesson plans. I do wish, however, that there was more interactive conversation about the material. I loved that another teacher in my school was taking this course and we were able to discuss the material in person which, I believe, increased my understanding of the subject matter.

I am a fifth-grade veteran teacher of 25 plus years and have seen and heard of Georgia Heard's book Awakening The Heart many times. What I have sadly never done was to sit down and read it cover to cover digging deeper into its content and finding inspiration. So thank you for offering this course and allowing me to do so. Poetry is an art of writing that feels on the outside either too simple or too abstract in meaning and for that reason, it is a genre often skipped over by many. Georgia Heard finds an almost natural way to make poetry a part of your daily life and truly awakens the heart to profound opportunities that lie in each poem and moment.

I was very nervous about taking a poetry class, as I teach Kindergarten and had a hard time imagining what teaching poetry to KGers would look like. But, I have taken classes with Ms. Reimer before and have always come out of them with great ideas and activities to implement in my classroom and this time was no different. I was amazed by my students' responses to the poetry activities I presented to them during my coursework and can't wait to try them out on a new group of students during this coming year (and years to come!). I thoroughly enjoyed this course!! All the projects were very meaningful to my students. This course instilled a real appreciation for and love of poetry in my students. This is not the first course I have taken from Luetta Reimer and will not be the last. No 'busywork' assignments. Just really fun,creative activities that you do with your class. I would recommend this class to any teacher! I teach first grade and it worked for me but it would also work in middle or even high school. Great course!
