Another great course from Fresno Pacific. This course was well paced and brought back the fundamentals of fitness. With all of the new fitness ideas, it doesn't hurt to look back and remember the basics as well. I will definitely recommend this course to others.

This is what I posted in the final reflection forum: The best part about this class is how upset I was at the book selection and resources used that it forced me to go out and find better content. I pushed myself to find up-to-date and relevant information to write all my papers and my unit plan. Having found better information and inspiration, I have already implemented a new health plan for myself. I made new goals and developed a motivation to create a healthier lifestyle with more awareness of my overall health. As a teacher, I also realize the need to stay current and up-to-date on all of my lessons I teach. Technology is a game changer.

At first it seemed a little ironic that four books were required for a class about fitness and wellness, however I carried away a ton of information. I thought I knew quite a bit about basic fitness and nutrition. I did know a lot of the basics, however I also learned a lot and discovered a few basic things I was not doing well.The texts Roland Shearer selected for this course are tremendously helpful to make small changes that will improve your health for life.

I took this course while my stress was high due to aging and sick parents 82 an 83 who live 7 hours away. I made numerous trips to see them during the course and also have 3 daughters ages 15/17/22 and a husband who has many demands and expectations of me. Plus a full school year of teaching 2nd graders while sponsoring three after school clubs. Yes, I did need to apply for the extension because often the course took a back burner on the priority list. However it increased my awareness and taught me the importance of taking care of myself. I am grateful for the experience and the opportunity that Fresno Pacific offers to busy and stressed out people, so life styles and choices can be changed for the better.

I really enjoyed this course, even though it might not seem on the surface to be that important to my first grade curriculum. First of all, I fully believe in the concept of "putting your own oxygen mask on first"--in order to be a highly-effective teacher, you need to make sure you are healthy and able to handle stress! In addition, I firmly believe that as a first grade teacher, I am in a uniquely influential position. When I tell my kids something is important, they listen! If I can instill some sense of importance to making sure you make healthy choices, I feel I can have a real and lasting impact.
