This course taught me to engage in a two-way path for classroom literacy, meaning it taught me how to be more in tune and informed of my student's reading and writing while emphasizing the visibility of my own literacy to the students.

This course gave me the opportunity to evaluate my current teaching practices in order to better meet the needs and interests of my students as readers and writers. It reminded me of why I became an English teacher in the first place. I will be able to incorporate the unit plan I developed as part of this course into my classroom, which is invaluable. Class had a lot of good information. However I did feel the book is a little outdated to our situation in schools and society. It still had good informaiton. What was nice is Dr. Reimer allowed us to adjust to our school/classroom settings as we did the assignments. However the book was published back in 1992, that is 29 years ago. A lot has changed since then, especially in curriculum.

I actually put off taking this course for years though it is required for the next level of accreditation I am seeking. I have my Masters degree in Education. Because I am not an English teacher and teach in a college prep, private high school, questioned the necessity of this course. It turns out it was a challenging, beneficial course and I delighted in the content. Luetta Reimer was a very helpful and encouraging instructor. It was a joy to work with her.

This class is just what my career needed! A bit of a jumpstart, and a great chance to see what I can add to my classroom. It was humbling to examine myself as a professional, but I am blessed to have received such amazing ideas and a fresh perspective on some of the everyday challenges of educating adolescents. The instructor was very supportive and encouraging.

In spite of the course textbook having a older (1990s) copyright date, veteran teachers especialy will easily be able to adapt the strategies and lessons to 21st Century Teaching and Learning and their instruction methods will be improved and/or enhanced after completing this course.

The course was well-organized and included a reasonable amount of work, and the professor was very helpful. The course text contained a lot of practical and creative ideas, especially on writing. However, the book contained some unbiblical ideas about the learning process. In addition, I was disappointed that this course as a whole included no biblical integration.
