This was a great course. I loved the book, Teach Like Finland, it was approachable and had many new ideas for me to try with my students. If you like reading and writing short responses, then you will enjoy this class. I really liked reading about another teacher’s professional journey. He wrote about always working after hours and feeling very overwhelmed in the United States. His teaching in Finland gave him many new strategies for managing work/home balance.

This course was great! Each module built on the previous one, so the assignments were appropriate. I enjoyed reading the book, and I like having a hard copy that I can highlight and refer back to. This course made me self-reflect a lot on my teaching practices as an American teacher, and question whether or not my style is the best I can do.

Loved this book and the opportunity to think critically about each chapter through Professor Carey's well-thought out, open-ended prompts. I almost felt as if I was one of Walker's Finnish students as I 1) had the autonomy to take the course on a topic of interest and 2) was posed with critical thinking questions to ponder and reflect upon in each module. An excellent course.

So glad I read this book. While the information in it wasn't ground breaking, it forced me to evaluate the choices I make in my classroom. I thought the assignments were relevant and were thought provoking. I would recommend this class to any teacher who needs a mental reset in their teaching.

It gave me strategies to Teach Like Finland, a nation whose students achieve high scores on standardized tests despite the fact that their school days are short and their stress levels are low. As a teacher who is tired of teaching in a high stress environment, I was eager to learn some strategies to reduce stress in my classroom while still achieving high results. I highly recommend this course!
