This standards based course is designed to give educators an overview of the Mono Lake area with an emphasis on pioneers, native inhabitants, and the fragile riparian ecosystem. Teachers can use the knowledge, from course materials, compiled research, and onsite visitations to provide a meaningful experience for students.

Course content includes natural history, geology, geography, water conservation, ornithology, anthropology, archeology, the Mono Lake ecosystem, and human history of immigrant pioneers and Native American inhabitants. Experiences from this course can be utilized in the classroom to provide an exciting experience for students and the foundation for potential field trips. Options are available for customizing course requirements to better fit the individual teacher needs. Visitation sites are open throughout the year.
