This is a standards-based course for educators. Queen of the Comstock Lode, the richest place on earth, Sister city to San Francisco, Financer of the Civil War, The city that rebuilt San Francisco, and Why Nevada became a State, were all phrases used to describe Virginia City. Course materials and visitation guide teachers through the history of the Comstock Lode, mining practices, and pioneer and native inhabitants .Experiences from the course can be used in the classroom providing a meaningful experience for students and the foundation for potential field trips.

Options are available for customizing course requirements to better fit the individual needs of the teacher. Virginia City is open year round but some individual sites may be closed during the winter season.
