This standards-based course is designed to provide educators a first hand experience with the operation and impact of a typical Eastern Sierra mining camp.Bodie is probably the best example of a western mining town. Now protected and managed by California State Parks, Bodie history is well documented and the town is maintained in a state of arrested decay. It is also a photographer?s paradise.Through visitation and course material teachers will be guided through the history of the gold and silver rush. Knowledge from the course can easily be taught in the classroom providing a meaningful experience for students and the foundation for potential field trips.

Options are available for customizing course requirements to better fit individual teacher needs.Travel to Bodie is on a dirt road which can be difficult to impossible during winter months.
