The remarkable story of the Monterey Bay, beginning in the 18th century when Spanish and French explorers encountered this shoreline, will be explored through text video, and the rich resources found on the Internet, including virtual tours and an optional site visit. Students will learn how the marine biology and ocean ecology in this natural paradise rose from the devastation of the industrial revolution to become one of the most celebrated shorelines in the world. A breathtaking view of life under the Monterey Bay is also presented highlighting the divisions of the ocean and the sea life that call them home. Students will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned as they develop integrated lessons for their classroom that align to state, district or national standards, including the Common Core Standards.
