CERTIFICATE FOR ONLINE TEACHING

This certificate program is designed to train K-14 educators in the necessary skills to teach online effectively. Appropriate pedagogical theory, assessment and “best-practice” strategies will be explored and emphasized throughout the coursework.

Participants will gain skill in developing lessons and online activities that can be used directly with their students. The technological skills of the participant will also be enhanced through the coursework.

This certification program addresses the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers from the International Society for Technology in Education

Register for the 3 required courses and 1 elective course from the list below and start your journey towards becoming a skilled online teacher.


REQUIRED:
Teaching & Learning Online, TEC-948
Teaching and Learning Online engages educators in an introduction and overview of online teaching and learning. This course is designed for the instructor who wants to incorporate elements of the online environment into their teaching practices or those who want to teach fully online.

Teach With Moodle!, TEC-965
Gain the essential skills and knowledge to be an effective online instructor and meet needs of 21st century students as identified in the NETP. Using Moodle, course participants will become part of a community of learners as they build a solid foundation for their own online course. Moodle will be experienced from a student and instructor perspective as students acquire technical skills, instructional strategies and design principles necessary for online teaching.

Online Collaboration/Assessmnt, TEC-969
This course provides educators with the experience, tools, and knowledge to effectively integrate collaboration and assessment activities into an online classroom environment. Course participants explore these topics in depth, engage in learning activities, participate in self and group assessments, and demonstrate their knowledge and skills through collaborative as well as individual performance assignments.

How do I obtain the certificate?

Procedure:
  1. Complete the 3 required courses and one elective course.
  2. Request application form by e-mailing pLLee@fresno.edu, or by calling 1.800.372.5505.
  3. Upon receipt of the completed application form, and verification of successful completion of the 12 units, the certificate will be awarded and posted to the participant’s transcript.

NOTE: Computer Technology (TEC) courses do not fulfill the computer requirements for the California Clear Credential.
